SINGLE PANEL IKAT HINGGI ~ BLUE RED WHITE SUMBA HORSES

Zenzoey Ikats are individually hand-spun, hand-woven cotton and hand-dyed using natural botanical colors, natural fibers and a blend of traditional and contemporary dyeing techniques. All ikats are woven using a traditional back-strap loom.  Women weave cultural values into each textile and then passes the knowledge to her daughters.  All Zenzoey’s Ikats are ethically sourced with a fair price paid to the weavers. At Zenzoey we are passionate about keeping the art of weaving and natural dyeing alive.

Hinggi translates to men's blanket.  The hinggi are large blankets decorated with warp ikat traditionally used by men.  They are usually used in pairs; one cloth wrapped around the hips, and the other worn over their shoulders.   In the old days, only nobles had the right to wear these textiles.
